Welcome to Jamaican at Heart
Have you ever considered living in Jamaica as an American? Are you considering it as a place to escape winter or even looking at it as a full-time, or nearly full-time home? This blog chronicles my journey into “becoming Jamaican.” I’d love to share my experiences and hard-learned insights as I stumble down this path.
My name is Valerie. I’ve raised my kids (all ten of them) and recently retired after 22 years of raising goats and being a professional goat cheese maker. I have lived, traveled and volunteered all over the world but have come to love Jamaica as if it were my birthplace.
My heart is big and I spend a lot of my energy trying to help people recognize their potential, especially those who are trying to make the world a better place. I have made many incredible friends along that path. I love to master new skills and stretch my mind, leading me to many new experiences.
I could choose to live just about anywhere and I’m moving to Jamaica. If this leaves you scratching your head, rest assured that you aren’t alone. My dermatologist isn’t too happy about it either.
However, if this resonates with you, join as I dive into the fascinating and, sometimes frustrating, routine of daily life here on the sunny South Coast of Jamaica.
There’s a lot more here than beaches, reggae and cold beer. Rich in culture, history, and some of the most friendly people on earth, chances are, Jamaica will win your heart like it has mine.
